| To maintain the database with accurate bioinformatics,
we employ an automatic search script written by Perdeep Mehta, Ph.
D. at the Hartwell Center for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. This
script compares all gene entries in the BGEM database against the
latest download of gene information from NCBI ( National Center for
Biotechnology Information). Each week BLAST searches are performed
using the nucleotide sequence of the DNA templates used for generating
riboprobes for hybridization analysis. The BLAST retrieves the corresponding
Genbank entry, GeneID, Unigene #, alternate gene symbols, Chromosome
and cytogenetic information and gene ontology information. Any change
detected between our database and the NCBI is documented and the BGEM
database is altered to reflect the latest bioinformatics available
at NCBI. |
